What is the right sweetness for fruit wines?

We at OOVVDA, firmly believe you are the sole authority for that answer.

We could share with you statistics of what is most popular. That would be based on the taste of others, and may do so in the future.

For now, we recommend you let your own tastes prevail, and suggest that if you are in doubt, order drier rather than sweeter. You can sweeten a wine more, but you can't make it drier (contact us for instructions if desired).

We will give you our preferences and observations for each variety. Within our circle of friends and family, we find the younger folk prefer wines sweeter than those of us with more experience! When most people try our wines, however, they find they like most of the varieties drier than they would have thought! The natural sweet finish of the fruit can be perfect when the wine is dead dry for some varieties. For others, some sweetness needs to be added to bring out the character of the fruit. We find most fruit wines on the market are overly sweet.

When tasting multiple wines, always start with a drier condition than you think you might prefer. When tasting from sweet to drier, your taste buds don't adjust properly and convince you that drier wines are sour as you miss the natural sweet finish of the fruit. It usually takes a couple of sips for the wines true character to show through, as the first sip just clears and stimulates your taste buds.
